Melissa Covington is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20 years of counseling experience in both the school and clinical settings. She enjoys working with all ages, and has experience with children as young as 3 years of age and persons approaching retirement age. She holds a Bachelor’s of Social Work and a Master’s of Education in Counseling and Development from Winthrop University. Melissa has spent the past 20 years acquiring continuing education in the areas of trauma for all ages, as well as studying child development.
While providing a safe and supportive environment, Melissa works with others to recognize unwanted patterns of behavior and develop needed insight. She gently helps others explore emotional barriers which may hold them back in life. She believes the healing of these emotional wounds helps to establish stabilization in social and emotional wellness while allowing individuals and families to engage in healthier and more productive life styles.
Melissa believes in a fluid and flexible counseling path to develop therapeutic tools and coping strategies helping clients achieve their goals and desired outcomes. EMDR, play therapy, sand tray therapy, art therapy, CBT, family systems, and person centered are some of the therapeutic modalities she uses in her eclectic style of work.
